A pied-à-terre in Amsterdam Jordaan

Project type

End-to-end project: interior design concept development and implementation

Date

June 2025

Location

Amsterdam

This project was a complete end-to-end design of a pied-à-terre in the charming Jordaan district. The client, based in the U.S., had recently purchased a 53sqm apartment in Amsterdam and wanted a cozy, welcoming space for family visits. We collaborated entirely online, while I managed the project on site - from the design concept to final installation.

The brief was clear: create a warm, soothing and functional space with a Scandinavian, minimalist touch, all within a very limited budget. Given the dimensions of the apartment, storage was a key priority. We designed custom solutions in the kitchen to increase storage capacity and balanced them with carefully chosen Ikea pieces to keep costs under control. The palette chosen, made of warm beige, grey and earthy greens set the foundation for a relaxed, calming vibe. To keep the space feel premium and timeless, we used natural materials like oak finishes on the furniture and linen on the curtains - details to add warmth, texture and quality to the overall design.

The result is a warm, minimalist retreat that feels practical and inviting - a true home away from home for the family when they visit Amsterdam.
